I started my photography business during one of the most tumultuous seasons of my life. I had just left my abusive husband after he assaulted me while on maternity leave with my 10 week old baby. I was unemployed, scared, and needed to find a way to support myself and my daughters FAST.
I had been doing real estate and commercial photography for 6 years but after being on a break raising kids I needed to completely revamp my marketing to make my side hustle big enough to support me and my girls. But I was so burnt out on photographing empty buildings over and over… So I decided if I'm going to start over I might as well start creating art that actually inspires me and creates the kind of life I actually want to live.
Before becoming a photographer I spent many years in social work and managing homeless shelters. I so missed having a job that was so deeply transformative to the lives of the people I worked with. I’ve also had a deep love affaire with the forests in the Pacific Northwest since childhood. I spent a few years traveling full time all over the country and no matter how many gorgeous places I visited my heart always came back to these woods.
So I decided to combine all my passions to create a business that not only let me be creative again but also had a deeply profound effect on the clients I work with. I wanted to create the kind of images I wish I had of myself. Photos that truly bring out the person I see myself as in the most stunning way possible.
So Mossy Matriarch was born. Now I get to live my dream life, running around the forest with amazing clients, making art for a living while helping people embody the most gorgeous version of themselves and get comfy with their sexy side. I honestly can’t think of a better job. My life went from absolute chaos and a depressed mess to more beautiful than I could have possibly imagined. And I have my wonderful clients to thank for that. Thank you for supporting me, believing in me, and allowing me to live my best life. Now I want to help you do the same!
Much love,
Sarah
